How is a discrete video card used if a built-in one is connected to the monitor?

There is a computer with built-in vidyuhi (Intel HD 4600). Installed an old NVidia GTX 650 ti. I recently discovered the following: the hdmi cable is connected from the built-in vidyuhi, but when I start games or graphics tests, it uses a discrete one. This is shown both in the NVidia GPU Activity window and by the increasing temperature of the discrete vidyuhi and by FPS.

So how does an image from a discrete get on the monitor screen, or how is it generally used in this case?

It doesn't show up on the monitor. It works as a "background" for programs that use normal 3d... this is set in the Nvidia panel. Perhaps physx is just being worked out on it ... again, look in the settings in the same place.
For example, you can sit on the built-in, and the video encoding program will work with the "external" video, converting videos ...
