How important are navigation chains in website promotion?

Now I am developing a design for my site. The designer suggested a variant of the layout of the page with the article. I did not like the layout and we made another one.
The first option (which I didn't like) contained navigation chains .
The second option is much better (in my opinion) in terms of design, but it is impossible to implement breadcrumbs in it.
And then the question arises before me: "Will there be problems with website promotion in the future?"
I make a website of high quality, for people. But at the same time, the main goal is to maximize traffic.
How important are navigation chains in website promotion? How to proceed in my case?

Depends on the complexity and depth of the site structure.
The deeper the depth, the more important navigation becomes.
For simple blogs/cms chains like Home->Article are not needed at all.
If one level of categories appears, then from each end page links to its category and to the main one are needed, it is nice (but not necessary) if this looks like a chain.
If the number of category levels is more than one (i.e. main>category>category>page), then the chain is required.

Important + it's convenient (which is also very important).
Do it with a chain and use micro-markup when layout.
