How does OpenSCAD work?

Hello!
The OpenSCAD program has a completely inappropriate syntax for me. It became interesting for me to write a library for parametric modeling in Lisp myself (the language allows you to do this easily).
On what mathematical basis does the discussed program work? I might be glad to look at the source, but C++ is a dark forest for me, and dealing with that bunch of files is not an easy task anyway.
Please advise any articles or books that you can, please explain yourself.
