How does MS Smart Client Software Factory feel?

Reading MSDN and the 1st page of the Google search results did not allow me to understand how alive this "thing" is. We have applications running on versions from 2006. 2010 is available on Codeplex .
I would like to understand:

1. Does MS keep this project afloat?
   
2. Does it make sense to upgrade from 2006 to 2010 (or the upcoming 2012, in MSDN the content about the 2010 version is marked as obsolete)?
   
3. When developing new desktop applications, is it worth using these developments or does MS have better architectural blocks (then which ones)?

This project will not be further developed and is not maintained. Prism is suggested as a replacement .
