How does Gmail know the recipient's name?

Today I was surprised by the following situation. They left me a [paper] business card. Sent a welcome email to the left e-mail (hotmail). And after sending in the gmail web interface, when the contact details were disclosed, his full name appeared, although I did not fill them anywhere. Moreover, it does not look like the result of the parser of the letter itself, since I only addressed by name. How is this possible?

The recipient has an account on Google(+) with an attached mailbox from hotmail.com

I think it is enough for anyone to send a letter to / from gmail once with the name in the letter, after which Google will add it to its database and will know the name of the owner of the mail :)
Most likely, it is enough to write to someone in gmail once and indicate your name . So that Google remembers you and shows everyone what your name is.

I think the owner of this mailbox has already communicated with someone on Gmail. That's his name and preserved in the databases.

When registering mail, you indicate the name and surname. And gmail takes this data.

If the mailbox is on Mail.Ru, then this most likely means that the recipient has an account in My World and Google took the information from there. Other mail services, including Mail.Ru itself, do the same. For example, to display information about the sender of a letter and an avatar, a search is made in open sources - social networks, postal services and services such as Gravatar .
