How do people become Linux administrators and what is required from a Linux administrator these days?

How does the transition to Linux admin work? Where should you start?
How did you personally start and how long did it take to become a Linux admin?
And what exactly is required from a person who claims to be a novice Linux administrator now, what do you ask at interviews? Are there any books to have a BASIC set of knowledge (I perfectly understand that they won’t let me into large servers right away, but something must start somewhere?)

You need to start by installing Linux on your home or work machine and various services based on it - Apache, Nginx, Squid, ISC-DHCPD, MySQL, PosgresDB, SQLite, OpenLDAP, DNS, all kinds of VPN access, all sorts of perversions with SSh. This will be the basic set of knowledge.
It would also be nice to find some kind of guru who recruits students to upgrade his skills.
I've been administering e-mail on DOS since time immemorial (around 1993). Then it was necessary to connect to the Internet, the provider issued a set of floppy disks with FreeBSD'1.x, and away we go...

I wonder how I overlooked this question ... I
came to the office on the recommendation of a friend. A friend said the famous phrase "I said that you know UNIX. Well, if you don't know, you'll find out." True, the vacancy was a programmer, for about a year and a half I was a UNIX programmer. This is probably why it’s easier for me now with source-based distributions, even though they are not enterprise from the word at all. And there was not linux at all, but FreeBSD.
As a result of intra-office clashes, I had to combine it with the administration. As I remember now - there was a commercial version of BSD on the server - BSDi BSD/OS
Then many years of FreeBSD administration - I just didn't tie it with a bow :) I
came to another office - and there ... linux :)
