How do monitor switches work?

I want to connect 3-5 computers to 1 monitor, I came across the Greenconnect 5x HDMI - 1x HDMI switch model (GL-501E)
and the question arose, will the computer see the monitor while the switch outputs an image from another computer?
It's just that when you turn off some monitors, they completely cut off the power and the computer thinks that the monitor is not connected and resets the resolution, usually to 720p.
Switches work on the principle of a button pressed, physical connected?
Or is it controlled by software, and the computer will be able to determine the monitor?

It all depends on the specific switch and on the specific monitor. There are switches that, in fact, poke a cable from a computer to one monitor, then to another. There are those who, at all their outputs, keep that service part of the signal, by which the monitor understands that it is connected somewhere.

There is a physical switching between monitors, and the signal goes to one specific monitor that you selected on the switch
