How do I set up graphics card switching in a laptop with AMD graphics on Ubuntu 14.04?
There is a laptop Acer Aspire V5-552g
Built into the video processor - 8650G
Discrete - 8750M
Catalyst sees only the built-in.
lspci sees both.
When you enter amdconfig --pxl or amdconfig -px-dgpu, the log says that discrete is used, but the catalyst and fglrxinfo write that it is still built into the kernel. Well, it doesn't affect performance.
ubuntu system version 14.04 beta2 with latest updates
AMD driver version 14.3 Beta.

In general, after installing the proprietary drivers from the repository, discrete graphics worked, although amdcccle wrote that it only sees the integrated one. If you switch to the integrated one, then amdcccle sees both cards, after turning on the discrete one, it sees only the integrated one again.
amdconfig --pxl
This is how you can see what is working now.
sudo amdconfig --px-dgpu # Activate discrete GPU (High Performance mode), must re-launch X to take effect
sudo amdconfig --px-igpu # Activate integrated GPU (Power Saving Mode), must re-launch X to take effect
PS: IMHO simple a bug in the drivers showing what works.
I once wrote about it. Just an example with Intel. Firewood is free.
