How can the process be automated?
Given: a folder into which I periodically upload graphic files with different names.
Necessary: automatically rename the file when added to the folder (or after some time) in the ab_000 format, where letters and numbers are the serial number of the image (after every hundred images, so that the letter changes, for easy searching)
Now I do this in semi-automatic mode.
What software can be used for such automation?

Standard task scheduler built into all Windows + jscript script built into all Windows.
I recommend this program: mensian.ru/ability/how_to_use
Your task is realized simply in one, two, three. And not a line of code.
There are clear examples on the program website, I think you will understand.
The program is shareware, but the basic functionality is enough for your task.
With the help of the program, I solved a similar problem for myself: I had to tear out scanned by the stupid KYOCERA 1125 MFP from subfolders with the date and name (each file in its own subfolder!) into a separate Scan directory.
Well, renaming files in accordance with certain rules is generally the strong point of this program.
