Home media library

I bought one of the modern "smart" TVs from Samsung.
I want to organize a file storage so that I can watch from laptops and from TV.
What is the best way to implement this?

Samsung has AllShare software for this .
I have it set up like this: A Netgear router with a hard drive connected to it, Transmission and a DLNA server are configured on the router, which distributes media content to the TV via cable.

It is better to implement in the form of a data warehouse.
Options:
1. Screw hooked to the router (not the best idea)
2. A separate NAS for 2-5 screws is already better
3. A compact system unit for 2-3 screws, but with a full-fledged operating system.
Option 2 and 3 are placed both behind the TV and behind the sofa, or even on the balcony.

Perhaps, in my humble opinion, it is too early to put the TV at the forefront of the home eco-entertainment system. Would it be better to have a “network media player, file storage, torento rocking chair”?

Hm. I have a USB port on my TV. We read at least 10 GB mkv FullHD with all tracks and subtitles.
Reads LAN in the same way.
I think you should be too. Perhaps there is a chance to pick up an external hard drive through one of the cables.

if I'm not mistaken, then freenas 7 can (could) pretend to be a UPnP / DLNA server. Freenas itself - works with 512 MB of flash and does not ask to eat.
