File manager with tags?

Colleagues, good day!

I work a lot with files and it becomes necessary to structure the information very carefully for quick access / navigation to the desired content. I constantly encounter this problem: the same element/file/folder can be assigned to several categories.

Let's take for example an institutional picture:
There is a subject Matan - two semesters. There is a subject Linal - one first semester. There is a subject History - one second semester. Matan and the rest are, for example, daddies with some materials.

Hierarchy option:
1st semester - Matan, Linal
2nd semester - Matan, History

Convenient if you need access by semesters. But sometimes you need access by subject:
Matan:
* 1st semester
* 2nd semester
Linal:
* 1st semester
History:
* 2nd semester

Different tasks require different options for sampling information. Estesstveeno each time to shift to manual is not an option.

Yes, shortcuts/symbolic links solve the problem. But it is manual or semi-manual work. In addition, it will be extremely difficult to make any changes to such structures: it is very easy to get confused.

Therefore, a question for you, dear colleagues:
Has anyone seen a cataloger / file manager or any other tool that allows you to easily change the way information is aggregated (by semesters / by subjects)?

An Open Source solution would be ideal to file for yourself ... But in general, any one will do.
Thank you!

UPD: In principle, the OS of any family. It's interesting where it is. I myself work both under Linux and under Windows mixed with Macos.

Goodnight. Please do not consider me "knowledgeable". After reading your question and an update to it, I can suggest the Haiku operating system for experiments. There, the answer to your question lies in the very organization of the file system ( a piece of documentation to confirm my words ).

In OS X, this can be done using standard tools - open "File Properties" (Cmd + I), in the "Spotlight Comments" field, enter the tags for this file. So for all files. Now you can search for files by tag through spotlight or make smart folders for each tag.

Windows has ACDSee. In the properties of the folder, we prescribe the category. And then you can view them through the data organization.
