Figma prototype loading endlessly?

Why doesn't the prototype appear in the desktop version of figma ( free to load ).

Most likely something with a network/DNS. Maybe your firewall is blocking it.
The desktop version is actually written in electronjs , which means there is node.js and chromuim inside. Those are essentially an alternative version of the browser tailored to launch the Figma application.
And if everything is ok in your browser, but not on the desktop, then most likely see if there is a network ban in the firewall.
