If you want to install without crap - take a network card from Intel, for example Intel EXPI9301CT. It works 100% with her.

For the sake of experiment, try installing 5.0 or 5.1 ESXi. This is due to the fact that, for example, in version 5.5, support for desktop hardware was cut.
So what do you have in the BIOS settings, Hardware virtualization is enabled?

I installed esxi 6.0 on the amd 970 chipset, of course the built-in realtek did not start. Going to the store for the Intel EXPI9301CTBLK Network Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter Adapter, PCI-E-1x and no network found again!
It worked after installing the network card in the pci-e x 16 / connector (the one for video cards)
