Does the position of a page relative to the homepage affect SEO?

I once heard that the number of clicks from the main page to the page affects the promotion of this very page.
Is it so?

Let's assume that there is a main page and a few more pages with approximately the following structure:

Main > page1 > page2
Main > page3 > page4 > page5 > page6

I.e. page2 is 2 clicks away from the main one, and page6 is 4 clicks away. Does this give any advantage in ranking or in something else from the side of the search engines of country2 relative to page6 ?

Yes, it gives you an advantage.
Go to the search results for an arbitrary request to check and see what pages the search engines will give out.
As always in SEO, this tip is not a silver bullet.
For example, in the case of online stores - they have one of the factors - the total number of goods, the more the better the ranking.
