Does the number of PCI-E lanes affect the number of hard drives I can connect?
I was recently asked this question, and I realized that I have a serious gap in this knowledge.
Is there a limit on the number of SATA devices that I can connect to one pci-e line?

Limited by common sense and the lack of controllers for more than 5 devices per line (more precisely 4, I have somewhere with 1 eSATA outside and 4 sata inside, it remains to be seen if this external one is rummaging around with one of the internal ones).
Common sense should say that the speed of one pci-e channel may not be enough for more, although it should work according to the mind.
ps usb devices in a computer can be cram hundreds (127 per controller, usually 2-3 on the motherboard, or even in each port), i.e. a bunch of hubs, a bunch of usb-sata controllers and a bunch of smut, because all this will slow down
pps dad not mine chia, the bloodiness of tears will be beyond the clouds
It doesn’t matter, taking into account mining, there is almost no load on disks, but if plotting, then yes, it is important for a large number of disks
