Does a tester need a higher/secondary education?

I want to go into the IT field, namely to try the direction of a tester, but I have no education in information, programming areas. Is higher education necessary? Will it be necessary for career growth?

You may not need education, but most employers ask about education.
And their absence often becomes an obstacle to getting a dream job.
But if you have real and deep knowledge, then there is a chance that you will still be accepted.
In other words, knowledge is more important!
But, given that you want career growth, you will definitely need education! Getting into a leadership position without a crust is very difficult, and sometimes impossible.

Education is needed in any field, especially now, when even loaders have to work with TSD and operate loaders. It will also be needed for career growth, since many companies are very fond of looking first at the presence of formal pieces of paper and only then at experience.
On the other hand, if you already have a higher education, then it makes no sense to receive a separate diploma in IT, it will not affect anything, and most subjects will either be repeated or will be taught almost from Soviet textbooks, which are not bad in theory, but in practical application in the bulk are very outdated.

If you need fundamental knowledge for work, then you need it, if you don’t need it, then you don’t need it.

Higher education is needed not for the IT sphere, but for a person.
On the other hand, they do not teach in an institution, a person studies. Whether you can even after graduating from the institute, get knowledge there - depends on you. Many simply sit out their pants at school, at the institute and at work. Yes, there are many, 90%.
