Do Murphy's textbooks help or is it worth taking a big and thick reference book?
I'm currently learning from Murphy's textbooks. The entire internet is literally screaming that this is the best grammar book ever. Apparently I'm used to a rigid "scientific" definition of the rules, when the text is written in a reference manner, and not in a playful manner, so I want to know the opinion of those who studied grammar according to Murphy. Does it work or what? On the forms, mostly the teachers write that they say we are working with the children on them, everything is good and good. But there are no hard texts like - "In Past Simple, such and such rules apply, such and such endings are added and all that," and is framed. There are just tables of words from which you can think for yourself that at this time the ending data is added to the words and, in general, the sentence is built according to such rules. In general subject. If this is not the manual for which it is worth learning grammar, advise which ones you studied. All the tutorials that I found are built on the same principle of units. A page of fluent descriptions of the rules and 2 pages of controls.

American streamline is a series of three books. Audio grammar is practiced in a comic form and words are given at the end. You will kill three birds with one stone. https://www.google.ru/search?newwindow=1&source=hp...
Yes, this is the best guide for learning a language, incl. grammar.
I say this as an English teacher and translator.
I was helped in due time by such books as Gina - English for ours,
plus a regular grammar book with exercises, in Russian, for example,
Repeating tenses of an English verb.
Murphy (at least the blue book) is really very good, at the same time, this approach, of course, is not suitable for everyone. If you need a strictly theoretical description of grammar, why not look at the standard references. Either in book form or online, for example, https://englishtip.ru/grammar/book/
