Do I need to close pages from indexing without search demand?
There is a site on which there are many pages for which there is no search demand (zero frequency in the wordstat). Such pages are somewhere between 20-40% of all pages of the site. At the same time, these are not garbage pages, but quite useful for people.
Should such pages be closed from indexing and excluded from sitemap.xml?

Zero frequency in Wordstat does not mean that there is no demand at all. This may mean, for example, that the demand is seasonal or that this page may be reached by other requests that you did not think about. Check the page traffic for, say, 365 days, and if there is no traffic, if the frequencies for the corresponding queries are zero in Wordstat, then this page really looks like a low-quality one. Whether to close it from indexing? If this is a technical page that is needed for the site to work - yes. If the page was intended for visitors, but it turns out they don't need it, in my opinion, it's better to just delete it.
if you see some sense in this for you, then of course you need to close it, if you don’t see it, then don’t
