Choosing a working machine for a programmer?
Need help choosing a working machine (laptop or desktop, it's not clear) for yourself.
What I'm working on now: HP EliteBook Workstation 8560w XU085UT , RAM increased to 16Gb, optical drive and internal HDD replaced with SSD OCZ Vertex4 512Gb + Intel510 120Gb, 2 external 24" monitors are connected to this.
What I'm working on: cross-platform applications, Android OS modifications , Embedded Linux, games on Unity3D and UDK
What I use in my work: MSVS2013 as the main IDE, Sublime Text 3 / Notepad++, VMware Workstation for quick assembly for all target platforms
Sometimes I play Fallout 3 NV "level" games.
This working machine will soon have to say goodbye, and a replacement is needed. The budget is about $1500, but floating. Also, I travel relatively often, and a 3-4kg laptop is sooooo inconvenient in order to take something on a train / plane with me.
The problem is that it's not clear what I need. Or a bunch of desktop + laptop with Windows + MacBook Air. Or a more powerful Windows laptop (with docking station) + MacBook Air (for travel time), or a desktop + MacBook Air.

I use a Macbook Air 13 + 21 'monitor, but I don't really need power, I work a little locally, if you need more powerful, then I agree with the previous commentator, that's the thing with retina.
I would advise you to look towards the brand new mac book pro retina 15", the laptop is very powerful, while it weighs only 2kg, and has a super cool 15" screen.
I am using a Samsung 13-inch 9 series laptop. Weighs 1.1 kilograms, matte screen, SSD - in general, I like everything.
At home two 30" monitors + 46" panel)
Be sure to check out Lenovo's T-series: ThinkPad T440s (1.5kg) for example
