Choice of router ASUS RT-N16 vs Cisco Linksys E4200?

I choose a router for the house. I plan to install dd-wrt. In the light of this article, I wanted to stop at the Linksys E4200 v1, but the Wikiwrites about "outstanding issues reported have included WAN stability, and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Radio stability." So it becomes scary to take the Linksys E4200, especially since there is some chance of getting a brick when flashing. DD-WRT is needed because standard firmware does not support binding of dynamic addresses to MACs, but DD-WRT has it, and I need a VPN to be raised for the network. I read that the network bandwidth is cut on the Linksys E4200, is this true? In addition, there is also 5 Hz Wi-Fi, which will not be superfluous at all, because. in a multi-storey building, there is serious interference in the 2.4 Hz range. I would like to hear feedback, are there those who flashed the Linksys E4200 on DD-WRT and what are the problems, or is it still better to take the ASUS RT-N16 3 times cheaper and not bother? Please advise. I want to take 1 time and for a long time, and there is no money for experiments. And what firmware to stop on: stock, tomato, dd-wrt...?

I have this 4200, with native firmware of the latest version. 5GHz crashes, 2.4GHz works fine, months without a reboot. I hope that the manufacturer will be able to programmatically correct the glitch with 5GHz in the next firmware versions, I'm not going to change it yet.

ASUS RT-N16 has been working at home for a year and a half (2 PC + tablet via Wi-Fi) on DD-WRT, there were no problems.
It works stably, the speed is good (the WAN port holds 125 Mbps, I checked it myself when I had 2 ISPs).
I took ASUS because it does not have active cooling (it does not have a fan), that is, there is no noise and the risk of cooler failure.

I have an Asus RT-N16 and can't complain about it. No special problems - so, I reboot every 3-4 months.
This is a very powerful router - it will not cut speed due to lack of resources (memory, processor) when many clients work with it at the same time, and now everyone has many clients for the router (laptops, desktops, phones, other devices).
Relevant for torrents too.
Linksys E4200 and ASUS RT-N56U, as I understand it, are weaker and more expensive.
But today the 5GHz network is a really cool advantage, I think so. If you have fast Internet or watch movies from your personal file storage, this is relevant. Every day the number of routers from neighbors is growing and there is more and more interference. And here 5GHz is very relevant - they will immediately stop spoiling your life. I would definitely take such a router today.
After all, you buy a decent device for a long time.

See if this model suits you.
Mikrotik RouterBOARD 751G-2HnD
I recently got hooked on it. The built -in Router OS does a lot of things.
If you wish, you can put OpenWRT as MetaRoute
Perhaps you can put DD-WRT there as well

And what firmware for ASUS RT-N66U do you recommend? Stock, they say is not bad, especially Merlin's mod, or maybe Tomato or DD-WRT?

I do not recommend installing Linksys for this reason alone .
