Career with SAP.....?

Hey habr!
The question is addressed to those who are somehow connected with SAP.
I have the opportunity to change the vector of development and I need your advice. Now I am a web developer: php, javascript, and what is supposed to be with them. Unexpectedly, I was offered to learn how to support our SAP.

Our company uses SAP BO + 1C, the expected work will be related to supporting “bridges” between 1C and SAP, writing technical specifications for new modules, digging into the database, and saving everyone during the reporting period, if something goes wrong so. Also in the plans is the transition to the 8th 1C and the transition to a new version of SAP, possibly.

Of all the necessary things, I have a good knowledge of SQL and a bit of knowledge of the SAP database architecture. First of all, you will have to study accounting, learn the tSQL dialect, get acquainted with SAP (I don’t even know which side). In general, there is a lot to learn. But new knowledge just beckons me.

But I am very attached to web development, therefore I do not want to blindly rush into an unknown area and put an end to the web.

Habravchane, share your experience, is it possible, starting like this, in n years to become an SAP consultant, developer, or whatever it is called. In general, those uncles with a large salary.
Having worked in several offices, of course. Or is it impossible without special training?
The main question is whether such work can be the beginning of a path to a brighter future with SAP?

Are there cases of close friendship between web development and SAP with 1C?

In my opinion, even if you can’t enter the world of big SAP, then tSQL, accounting and familiarity with 1C will always come in handy in web development, right?

Somehow, already in the position of a lead programmer, he sent a JFL resume to the Moscow representative office of SAP. Not third party implementers. In SAP itself. They called back, offered to try out for the assistant of the junior green goblin junior tester. With a very modest salary and a mandatory dress code and other corporate culture ... Moreover, it was said as if they were doing me a great honor. The girl was incredibly surprised when I said that I was not interested. She said, "... well, we're SAP! Do you know what SAP is??"
That's why something nirazu not regretted since then. What do you think, in vain?

A typical SAP career:
1. Started as a SAP integrator (there are a lot of them) almost immediately after graduation.
2. Several failed projects - about which everyone will talk at least - normal or in excellent colors
3. "Trample feet" - many business trips in Russia and the CIS. But experience is growing.
Further options:
4.1 You are headhunted by one of the clients (by this time you are pretty tired) - and you work as an IT director for him until retirement.
4.2 You become an independent SAP consultant (clean up after integrators) - profit is a very good job 3-4 months a year.
4.3 Stupidly downshift on good savings earned in the integrator.
4.4 Change the profile of classes - rejoice that SAP is no longer yours.
Haven't heard of other scenarios yet :)

Please note - SAP Bussiness One has little to do with the 'big' SAP R / 3 (for which there are many vacancies on HH with beautiful numbers), and as far as I know, it is not widespread in Russia. So with knowledge of SAP BO and the ability to integrate it with 1C, it may turn out that you will be in demand only in your company

I work as a SAP ABAP developer. Sap is difficult, because in addition to programming, you need to be well versed in the subject area. It is also necessary to understand well that SAP is a completely different world, life is not enough to comprehend it all. If they offer to go to SAP, leave without hesitation, because. it is almost impossible to get there from the "street".

It is better not to miss such an opportunity. But whether you will be an uncle with a big salary or not is up to you.
Good luck! :)

SAP is needed for accounting and a beautiful report builder, a connection is needed to upload all data to 1C and submit reports through 1C, and this boils down to creating the necessary xml in SAP and opening it in 1C.
