Can a virus get into the UEFI BIOS?

Motherboard from ASUS. My dad downloaded the BIOS update program from the left site, installed the BIOS and the system did not boot anymore, I had to reinstall the BIOS. And I had a thought, can a virus get into the BIOS?

The BIOS is just an executable program. Integrators quite easily insert their screensavers there, for example. And UEFI is a mini-OS in general, you can even write separate programs for it.
At the same time, if an infection sits in UEFI, no one will ever see it :)

In theory, no.
But urban legends say that maybe there was something like that somewhere somewhere.

The BIOS is an ordinary program, it can be rewritten from under the OS. But this is purely theoretical.
In practice, there are too many assumptions and too much iron.

If you need treatment, download the original BIOS and flash it
