Can a random plug-compatible charger break your phone?

Over the past 5 years, there have been many different fast charging technologies from different manufacturers, and many are not compatible with each other. "Not compatible" i.e. A "quick" charger from one manufacturer will not charge a phone from another manufacturer quickly or will not charge at all.

But first of all, compatibility is important to me in the sense of not breaking the device or charger. Can a charger taken from someone with a plug suitable for your device break your device (burn the connector)?

If the question is too broad as it is, I can narrow it down.
At the moment I'm interested in Xiaomi Mi A3 (Quick Charge 3.0) and Samsung A50 ("Adaptive fast charging")
Can any “suitable” charger taken from someone somewhere (either USB-A charger and USB-A to USB-C cable, or USB-C charger and USB-C to USB-C cable) break one of these devices? Could the charger itself be damaged?

It turns out that the smartphone checks which cable is turned on, then "whistles" with charging and agrees on what voltage it needs to be applied to. If he does not agree, he receives 5V. You can't burn anyone with that kind of pressure.
PS Naturally, the left Chinese charger can burn itself out, and kill the phone, and the cable can melt, and the phone connector can melt ... In the last article, this is mentioned in passing - there may be incorrect electronic marking of the cable, lack of protection in the power supply, non-compliance with standards.

Incompatible - unlikely.
Badly made, conditionally "Chinese" - can burn not only the device, but also the person.
You can find cases on the Internet when a person was killed while he was listening to headphones through a phone that was charging from a cheap, poorly made charger. Looks like something broke.
Therefore, in addition to compatibility, quality charging is more important.

usually the battery expands slightly and works twice as long
once
the last time
after that immunity is developed on the left charges
