Can a game update weigh 65 GB if the game itself is 80 GB?

Apex Legends takes up 80GB of disk space. Now an update is being downloaded that weighs 1.3 GB but at the same time fills 65 GB on the disk.

I don't understand what the hell is this at all. Those. For a game that already weighs 80, I still need to keep 65 in reserve, all 145 turns out? Or is this some kind of mistake?

And how. Sometimes the game does not just download the update, but downloads half of the files. You have an apex there, which I updated today, so it showed the update 1.4 gigabytes, but in fact 15 gigabytes of free space was clogged, the place on the hard drive was over. I uninstalled and reinstalled because it's not fucking 1.4 gig

1. Yes, maybe

all 145 turns out?

No, it doesn't work. In updates, often not new files, but replacements of old ones.
Although if you haven’t updated the same Apex since the first season, then yes, it’s quite possible that so much new content will come.

which weighs 1.3 GB but at the same time fills 65 GB on the disk.

Sometimes updates are not just new files, but "instructions" on how the files need to be changed - for such operations, you have to copy the files.
But I'm not sure if steam uses such an algorithm, so this is just a guess.
In any case, when updating, old files are not immediately deleted.
