By what criterion to search for the geographical location of the infrastructure object?

Good time. At the moment I am writing my thesis on the topic "Geo-information retrieval system of nearby infrastructure". The essence of the work is to develop a mobile application, thanks to which the user has the opportunity to find a store that has a given product / service.
Problem
In order for the system to function, it is necessary that there be a server that hosts information about stores and available products. This information must be updated regularly (at the same time as the item arrives or is sold). But I am not familiar with the principles of accounting for goods in stores. I do not know how the store employees control the very arrival of the goods or their sale. For this reason, I do not know how to build "communication" of the store with the application server. It should be logical that the store needs to provide software that would be able to send requests to the application server. But the problem is that it is necessary to teach the software provided to the store to synchronize the data on the server with their local product accounting data.
Suggested solution to the problem
I still want to connect my thesis with geodata / geolocation, but I'm thinking of changing the criterion for searching for an infrastructure object. That is, look for the same store not by the availability of goods or price, but by this product, but by a different key. Something that doesn't require that kind of sync and headache.
Question
In fact, I want to ask 2 questions:
1. Is it worth changing the idea or is it better to understand the principles of accounting for the store's goods?
2. By what criterion to search for the geographical location of the infrastructure object?
Also, if you have some experience or at least some idea of how goods are accounted for in a store, please share the information.
Thank you.

Understand the principles of accounting. Everything that comes to them, for example, gets into 1C and 1C uploads it to the central server via XML, here you have the current database on the central server :) Well, this theory is suitable for a diploma, in practice there may be some difficulties))
