Blog platform: standalone or LJ

I would like to open a blog to publish interesting things and through it to attract people to the project website.

What technical solution to choose? It is important that it is more convenient to promote to people.

Two options are being considered - either a special blogging platform (http://typepad.com) or LiveJournal.

Would love to hear the pros and cons. For example, how convenient is it to set up LiveJournal for SEO? How easy is it to customize the design?

Maybe someone used typepad.com or similar?

It makes no difference what the blog will run on. What matters is what you write about.

If there is no need for moneymaking (affiliate programs, links, etc.), then LJ. It is LiveJournal, with all its shortcomings. The whole party is there. And the rest of the platforms are like signals to aliens: no one will hear. Well, it's figurative.

First, you can open a blog in LiveJournal, and if things go well and don’t get bored after a while, you can always transfer it to a stand-alone platform and, in addition, rebroadcast it to LiveJournal (many people do this, the same Exler, for example).

2 wartur: Maybe I misunderstood, but is it about making a profit?
There is a problem with all ready-made solutions - sometimes there are no plugins or features that I would really like to have.
If you still want to start your own blog, look towards google blogspot or wordpress. Blogspot is preferable, as other Google services and gadgets are easily integrated into it. LJ would not recommend choosing at all: very limited options, extra advertising, etc.
Personally, I have been using the wordpress engine for more than 5 years (though on a rented hosting) and I am quite satisfied. Though I'm going to move in some time.
Regarding promotion: the most important thing is unique content (preferably on 1-2 topics) and periodic updates. In this case, there will be a constant influx of new users, and the old ones will periodically return for updates.

and through it to attract people to the project website

in this case, it would be most expedient to create accounts in existing blogging and social services/communities
from an autonomous point of view, in this sense, there will be very little, except that you will attract some search traffic, or you will have to actively advertise the blog first

What you wrote is called SMO - this is a very expensive type of advertising, a lot of hours spent on profits, contextual advertising is better right away. They resort to SMO to turn thinking and this is a huge job, but probably no one will read just like that.
SEO from a blog - well, it’s quite difficult, it’s easier to buy links, for SEO it doesn’t matter what design, it’s better to just write articles and indicate links in the text, with anchors or not, but I immediately warn you that there is no weight from these links at all, even if you log in 1000 these logs with TIC less than zero zero.

blogger.com, also known as blogspot.com, in terms of convenience and speed, does a quick one or two.
