Asterisk problem with codecs, what is the reason?

Good afternoon.
There are 2 servers with Asterisk connected via IAX, when you specify the use of codecs (ulaw, alaw, gsm) in iax.conf, the call is rejected due to Unable to negotiate codec.
The g729 codec works, but a greeting is heard for 1 second, then the sound starts to abruptly interrupt and be lost.

What could be the reason for codecs not working, how to diagnose and fix?

You need to check in the asterisk console that 'iax2 show peer xxx' displays those codecs that you expect to see. Then see debugging at the time of the call by turning on 'iax2 set debug on'. It is also likely that this error is a bug in the code, since the asterisk is quite old - upgrade to the latest version in the 11th branch.
