There were some unexplained problems with Asterisk 13 on FreeBSD 10.3 (for example, PJSIP could not be made to work). I had to move it to CentOS. I will not argue that FreeBSD is to blame - Asterisk's living conditions were harsh there - in jail.
The old Asterisk 1.8 feels fine on FreeBSD.
I agree with Dima Kim . Although, from the old memory of the FreeBSD administration, I can see that there are very few drivers for the boards. Of course, this applies mainly to FXS/FXO boards, but E1 boards may not start either - before buying, you need to very carefully find out the availability of firewood for FreeBSD. Only cards from Digium and compatible cards (those pretending to be Digium) are guaranteed to work
