why reinvent the bicycle?
if it’s convenient for you on BSD, then you can use it on it, which you know well on that and deploy it, on centos it’s easier to troubleshoot

To the above: if you only need an aster, and there is no rejection to the GUIs, then it's easier to install the native distribution.

It works fine here and there. Choose the system you know best.

There were some unexplained problems with Asterisk 13 on FreeBSD 10.3 (for example, PJSIP could not be made to work). I had to move it to CentOS. I will not argue that FreeBSD is to blame - Asterisk's living conditions were harsh there - in jail.
The old Asterisk 1.8 feels fine on FreeBSD.

I agree with Dima Kim . Although, from the old memory of the FreeBSD administration, I can see that there are very few drivers for the boards. Of course, this applies mainly to FXS/FXO boards, but E1 boards may not start either - before buying, you need to very carefully find out the availability of firewood for FreeBSD. Only cards from Digium and compatible cards (those pretending to be Digium) are guaranteed to work
