After an hdd crash in a raid 5 array, does the virtual disk ask to be formatted?

There is a RAID5 array
After the hdd failed and was replaced with a new one, a virtual disk appeared in the explorer, but it asks to format it, which of course I don’t want to do.
Why, how, what, why and how to fix raid and recover data.
