Working alternative to wine?

I have been living on Linux for a long time, I don’t have a single machine on Windows, but on average life is rare once every half a year, but it aptly presents the need to run an exe, which, of course, falls apart under wine. Who knows a better emulator? Better free.
About Windows VM: you need to buy a license (my toad did not approve such an expense).

virtualbox, put apt-get install virtualbox*

The emulator will never be of high quality.
Use VirtualBox and put a trial version of Windows into it! And you don't need activation.
Or.. Maybe try ReactOS??? =)

Look towards WineTricks .
There is also Mono (for working with .NET)

I do everything through KVM (virsh + virt-manager). You only need to install the virtio and qlx drivers in Windows. I don't install any VirtualBox.
I just run it as needed once a month, or even less often.
Windows - trial. If the trial period ends, I simply rearrange it, or work without wallpaper.
It is a pleasure to work in a virtual machine, here you have snapshots and rollbacks and copies.
