Windows Server Licensing

Hello,

I am faced with the task of merging mail accounts and an intranet portal. All software can connect to AD.

Can you please tell me if I need to buy user/device licenses if I'm just using AD as an LDAP directory to store users? And if I also enter computers into the domain?
And do any licenses come with the server license?

Here you can read. In short, as I understand it, if users are authenticated (and they clearly pass in your case), then you need to buy licenses.

Previously, since 2000 and like 2003, there were 5 CAL licenses in boxed versions. Licenses are purchased for connections to the server.

If you already use AD and have purchased client licenses for all users or computers, then you don’t need to buy anything else - CALs are valid throughout the enterprise.
