Windows Anytime Upgrade and MSDN Academic Alliance

Windows 7 Home Basic is preinstalled on the computer; Windows 7 x64/x32 Russian/English (Profesional) are available via MSDN AA. Is it possible to switch to another version of the OS through Windows Anytime Upgrade without reinstalling the system?

The upgrade utility accepts the key, but after starting it asks for another, answering:

The upgrade key you entered is for an edition of Windows that does not work with Windows Anytime Upgrade. Enter a different upgrade key.

And this is after trying both languages for x64, although another habrauser from a similar computer, only from another city, got an upgrade . Perhaps something has become necessary since then?

Or will you have to reinstall the system, install drivers, configure software (and other traditional joys)?

It looks like they covered up the ability to upgrade from home basic directly to professional

And Home Basic is not x32 by any chance? And you seem to be trying to upgrade to x64. Which is theoretically impossible. Either 32 by 32 or 64 by 64.

MSDN AA issues keys only for new installations. This was warned orally when getting acquainted with the program responsible from our university.
