Window 10, what is RAM used for?

There is a working laptop with 16 gigabytes on board. After a long time working with the VS, VC, SQL and Chrome project, this seemingly large amount of memory began to be missed.
When you open Task Manager or Resource Manager, it's not obvious what the memory is being used for. That is, the maximum if you count on running applications, the maximum will be no more than 6-7 GB, and maybe even less.
Windows memory diagnostic did not reveal any errors either.
Are there adequate memory diagnostic tools to understand what the memory is doing?

The manager shows the whole picture, unless, of course, you look at the "Allocated memory" column. It is hidden by default. So add it and look at it.
PS What does MemDiag have to do with it, of course, I don’t understand

Window 10, what is RAM used for?
The main memory consumption goes to two things -
  • Allocate memory for applications.
  • caching.

For example, 5 gigabytes are allocated for applications, 10 are used for the cache, and half a gigabyte is free.
Whether there are adequate means of diagnostics of memory what to understand on what storage disappears?
Established task manager and resource monitor give a complete picture in general.
In some cases, Russinovich's utilities and performance counters are used for special tasks.

I'll tell you without the means that it takes up memory. This is the basic Working Set. Although it is claimed that calling the EmptyWorkingSet function is needed only for debugging purposes, in reality it is worth doing this once a day for each process. You can use the RamMap utility for this.
