Win8: how to close the metro application with the mouse if you are too lazy to drag its top part across the entire screen down?

subj.
Switching to another app, looking for it in the popup bar, and closing it via the context menu is almost as bad.

No way.
If this is very critical for you, then there are two options:
a) Do not run the metro application. They are already made not for the mouse and not for the desktop.
b) Do not close the metro application. It has already been indicated above that there is not much point in this, inactive applications go into the “suspended” mode.

In the browser, the opera came up with (it seems like one of the first) a brilliant thing.
Mouse gestures. Works like a drug. Very convenient and very helpful.

That's it, you need to come up with new touch-gestures

An interesting solution to the problem.
Question: how to close the metro application?
Best answer: don't run the metro app, don't close the metro app.

Use your mouse or (if you have a touchpad) your finger to drag the top edge of the app downwards. The application will first shrink into a small thumbnail. And when it reaches the bottom edge, it simply closes.
Z.Y. First I answered ... then I read the whole question, I'm sorry)))
