Win7 file associations won't set?

Hello, on my own I have not coped with the problem of the following nature: there is a desktop with a fresh licensed win7 pro rus. It does not set any associations for files. For example, I right-click on a .rb file, select "Open With...". Firstly, there is nothing in the list of programs except default programs. Secondly, I click "Browse", go to% programmfiles%, select the executable file of the editor I need, click "ok", the dialog closes and in the initial dialog I still do not see the program I just selected. The same thing happens if I try to assign an association in the Default Programs applet. I understand that you can get into the registry and from there set the associations for all the extensions I need with your hands, but for a long time this is a crutch, you know. There is no time to reinstall it, and there is no reason to. May be, Are there other solutions to my problem? Thank you.
I only found a description of the same problem from another person, but with screenshots:

Try to create a new user, check associations. If everything is ok, delete the old one ...

Have you read all the recommendations in this thread forum.oszone.net/thread-153513.html? And nothing helped?
From myself, I can recommend checking the access rights to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT branch in the registry.

Try to do everything from under the administrator account. I remember that this is how I had to solve the problem with media files that had to be associated with a portable player.
