Will the basket from ML330 G6 work with Asus Z9PE-16?

The p410 raid controller and the ML330 G6 cage are compatible, but the cage board has an i2c connector, while the Z9PE-16 motherboard does not.
Will the basket / disks in the basket work without connecting this cable?

Yes, it will work, maybe only the diagnostic LEDs on the disk sled will not light up, but I'm not sure.
