Why wpa_supplicant won't let me login?

The problem is of this nature. A laptop with Ubuntu 14.04 on board is connected to an access point. After some time of use, the point either falls off, or it seems like there is a connection, but the traffic does not run.
Here's what dmesg gives right after disconnect:
[50207.085206] wlan0: authenticate with 00:06:31:d6:3f:5f

[50207.505142] wlan0: direct probe to 00:06:31:d6:3f:5f (try 3/3 )

[50207.709229] wlan0: authentication with 00:06:31:d6:3f:5f timed out
After restarting wpa_supplicant, the connection is restored. Any ideas?
