Why such terribly slow switching between computers via kvm switch?

Two computers - one monitor. Switching between them via kvm switch. From computer1 to computer2 it switches quickly (3 seconds), from computer2 to computer1 - you have to wait 20 seconds before the image appears on the monitor. Why is that? Monitor - hdmi, kvm - dvi, hdmi cable is inserted into it through an adapter. Could this be causing it to slow down? Or other reasons?

The problem is that the video card, not seeing the monitor, turns on the "default" output as the main one (most likely VGA). And in order to figure out that the monitor "appeared" and is connected to another input, it may take some time.
