Why sell startups?

Good afternoon!
I don't understand one thing. People create a start-up company, plow like horses for several years and then sell it. Okay, let's say ordinary employees who have shares or options, it makes sense for them to make money, cut down the dough. But what's the point of selling the business to the owner(s) of that startup if the business is making a steady income, especially in retirement?

This is business. You either take as much money as they give or after six months - a year you are left with a bare ... oops.
