Startup or not startup?
Good afternoon.
Some insignificant time ago, a group of young people took over the management of a company that was once created to create some kind of software. The software was not created and the company was just gathering dust. Now, I, with a couple of friends, decided to revive the writing of this software - a program for managing honey. institution based on web technologies. There was even honey. a center that agreed to experiment on it, which advises and in general they are cute. The problem is that you want to eat, but honey. the center does not particularly seek to finance the project. So the question arose about what: is our idea a startup? What options for the development of our enterprise are possible on the condition that: in general, we have an idea of what and how to do, but we lack some experience!?
Thanks in advance for your advice and ready to answer additional questions.

Make a finished product, then implement it for money.
It turns out - good, no - well, okay. You can make the first version in your free time from your main job, if you sell it, quit.
Make the first minimal working version. Then go to honey. institution and suggest implementation. You sell a license for a month\six months\a year, for example, you promise free updates. Tell us what you plan to do in the updates and how everything will be awesome later, how much functionality there will be and how their clinic will make money on this and improve the service. For all new customers, the price will increase with each update, but for you, if you sign up and buy now, the amount will remain the same.
Those. put pressure on the fact that the product is beneficial and useful to the clinic .
That they, if they sign now, will receive updates for free and save .
At the same time, promise updates every n months, i.e. the release date should be known to be more credible. If the clinic merges now, talk to them after the update. Let them see how much better the service has become and more expensive. They might still be interested. Don't push anymore if you don't agree.
It is best to negotiate with the decision maker, promising him a flexible bonus system .
Make a beautiful prototype, look for BIG money, delete the prototype, long and hard make software convenient for doctors, ????, get a profit.
Just don’t suck in, please, a semi-annual craft as a working tool with real honey. institutions. With medicine, everything is already bad, there is no need to torture more people.
I am currently implementing one of the MIS Bars (Medical Information System) at a new large perinatal center. I can note that I have never seen more pagan software in my life (I openly and confidently declare this). In this area (MIS) one shit software. Nothing normal is a fact. The system has been implemented for half a year (!) and at least another half a year will be implemented and debugged. Then endless tech support. During this time, it is realistic to write a good new system. However, customers do not need air. They want a finished product. Therefore, you have to work with that shit software on the MIS that is on the market. I think you should take up such a decision, because competitors do not care at all. Under the contract, Bars was paid 70 million, including 300 jobs (the price is invented out of thin air in the truest sense of the word, and for each customer it is individual for the leopard - for some it’s 100 thousand everything, and for some it’s 70 million). It's good money, and their MIS is real shit (even the windows calculator is on top of the iceberg compared to their MIS). And customers pay money, because there is no worthwhile product on the market, and unfortunately nothing normal is being developed.
Good luck.
A simple question: the number of employees of honey. institutions (medical center)?
UPD: 3 months somewhere on the working software you need. Look for other clients through the employees of this center... Talk to 2-3 clients at a time. So you will do something average in terms of BP. Then - sell at least 1 out of 2-3 ... And then - "word of mouth" and growth.
If you have an idea of what to do and how, then make a map of the action plan, ... and look at the risks of "do you have enough resource\enthusiasm\beer\" to reach self-sufficiency.
If not enough, then determine an investment search plan,
the thicker and more successful the “prototype” is, the more likely it is to find an investor - if it doesn’t shoot, then the losses will be directly proportional to the thickness
