Why might the D-Sub source - DVI-D-Sub adapter - monitor link not work?

There is an X9SLR-F motherboard with a D-Sub output, served, according to the specs, by Matrox G200eW 16MB DDR2 graphics.
There is a Samsung 971p monitor with DVI. He had two cables in the kit - DVI-DVI and DVI-D-Sub, which, unfortunately, was lost. As a result, I connect it all with such an adapter: HAMA DVI (f) - VGA HD15 .
The output is no picture. Assumptions:
- a dead adapter
- some feature of the MP that I didn't take into account
- some feature of the monitor I didn't take into account
- a combination of the above factors
I checked the assumptions: I took a Vaio Duo 13 laptop with a standard HDMI-D-Sub adapter.
I connected a regular adapter, a DVI-D-Sub adapter to it, a monitor to it.
At the moment the monitor is connected in the Win 10 settings, it can be seen that the system sees it, but the picture does not appear.
From this conclusion: the motherboard is not to blame, either the adapter, or the monitor, or both is to blame.
Are there any recommendations? I really don't want to take a card with DVI.
PS Yes, I know that X9SRL-F has IPMI, but the monitor is sometimes more convenient.

@GavriKos

Is the correct input selected in the monitor settings? There is not always auto-switching input.
