Why might a smart filter from a clean demo not work?

I installed a clean demo. Edition "Business". during installation, I chose a standard demo solution for an online clothing store. Didn't change anything in any settings.
Smart filter not working. It just doesn't filter. When choosing filtering options, it throws some kind of ajax request, blinks a little with the button, but does nothing. When you click on the "show" button, it simply resets similarly to the "reset" button and with the same url transition /catalog/dresses/ => /catalog/dresses/filter/clear/apply/.
Changing the arrFilter variable name does not change anything.
Outputting $GLOBALS[ "arrFilter" ] before catalog.section in section_vertical.php returns an empty array.
The output of global $arrFilter is similar to an empty array.
I've run out of ideas.
