Why is whois information made public?
I registered a domain in the .COM zone with a large and respected provider, and my passport information (home address, phone number) ended up in whois. This is a public service, and it turns out that everyone sees the address where I live.
I'm not paranoid, but it makes me uncomfortable.
I called customer service, they offered to hide my passport details for an annual “additional fee”.
Although I'm not greedy, I don't want to pay extra.
It looks strange, I don’t even want to tell the provider my home address, and even more so that he puts it in public access.
Who understood this topic, please give specific advice:
Is it possible to indicate the address of your work (street, house, office, phone) instead of home in "whois"?

for the first year of domain registration, the private person service is free.

Personally, it seems to me that they are posting this so that if the domain is going to be taken away, you can restore it, but then another question comes up, they have access to your personal data, why should they find out through whois
