Why is Thunderbird sending mail but not receiving it?

Thunderbird does not receive mail, but sends.
Tested on Gmail.com and Mail.ru

Installed Avast Internet Security. Turning it off doesn't solve the problem.
The Internet does not provide a solution to the problem. Where to dig, what's the matter?
