Why is the power indicator blinking?

I stopped charging the battery in the Toshiba Satellite L775-A1W laptop, bought the same one, to order, the same model, inserted it into the laptop - it does not turn on and the power indicator blinks. The old battery at least works with a wire, but this one does not, what could be the trouble?
