Why is the movie shown in different colors in different players?

When you run a movie on two VLC players and K-Lite Codec Pack without making any changes to the settings, the colors are completely different. Where is the truth?

This is an HDR source on an SDR monitor. VLC can convert HDR colors to SDR , but MPC can't.
To view 4K HDR, use VLC, MPV and others that can.
