Why is the journald log in binary form?

Previously, dmesg saved log files in plain text. Why does journald save in binary form? Is this something to do with the fact that a binary file is harder to fake when hacked?

This is due to the fact that before programs were written for people, and people read the output of programs. And now programs are written for other programs, and people are no longer needed.

Because systemd. There are many good and free distributions out there. There are also people who would like to make money on it. And they created systemd - something that kind of replaces init, but at the same time writes logs in binary form, in order to require paid consultation services - what it is and what it is eaten with ...
The idea is to "complicate Linux so that you can sell consultations" turned out to be so commercially good that now finding a distribution without this ugliness is a rather non-trivial task...
