Why is the battery not charging after being discharged?

Hello. For about 3 days I have my Nexus 4 lying around, which, after being completely discharged, refuses to charge. It has terrible 6-sided and small bolts, which if you only order for 1k, so you can’t take it apart and cut some batteries directly into the battery. There are no charging frogs in the city either. But more interested in the very reason for this behavior. Why do lithium-ion batteries not want to charge after being discharged? I also ask for advice on how to solve this problem? Is it possible to somehow plug contacts from the battery directly into the USB? Or somehow reduce the voltage on the charger?

I met several batteries that, after a deep discharge, "went into themselves" - the controller usually closes the key responsible for the possibility of obtaining energy from the battery, but charging it is usually possible (through internal diodes). Sometimes it happens that both keys are closed (and the diodes are turned on oppositely), and in order to force the controller to open the keys, you need to briefly apply high voltage. In all cases, he successfully reanimated the batteries by applying 12 volts to the contacts. The duration is very short, literally "strike contacts against each other once or twice" (imagine that you are hitting the strings). After that, you can charge with conventional chargers, and even with a phone (connect to power in advance).

Modern lithium batteries are not directly charged, they are connected through a controller that decides whether it can be charged or not.

I am writing for those unfortunate who may have the same problem. In general, it helped to take it apart and hold the battery separately from the phone for 10-15 minutes. In the case of Nexus 4 specifically, I advise you to open it carefully (with a thin plastic around the entire perimeter of the lid), because there is a risk of breaking the frame around the buttons, which I did.
