Why is the atapi.sys file corrupted?

The situation is as follows, the laptop on Windows XP SP3 has stopped starting, writes the windows / system32 / config / system file is damaged. Further, I found that the atapi.sys file was corrupted, how can I replace this file with windows / system32 / config / system? Try to start in "Safe Mode with Command Prompt", and then run:
sfc /SCANNOW

In this case, it will be more efficient to boot from the normal installation distribution of Windows XP SP3, run the chkdsk c: /F command , and if after that it is not possible to boot into "Safe Mode with Command Line Support", then start the installation of Windows from the same disk in mode update / restore (all user data and settings will be saved).
