Why is external hard drive not readable from usb 3.0 port but readable from usb hub under usb 2.0?

Why is external hard drive not readable from usb 3.0 port but readable from usb hub under usb 2.0?
There is an external hard drive WD Elements 10B8 2tb. Haven't had connection problems for several years.
Nedvano the disk fell off.
Now, if you connect to usb 3.0 to a laptop, the disk works but the computer does not see it. Not in the controller, not anywhere else.
If you connect it to the usb hub via usb 2.0, then everything works.
Works on other machines.
The answer with nutrition is hardly suitable, because. the hub has no external power supply and is connected to the same usb output where the disk cannot be read directly.
Why is this happening and how to fix it?

If the disk used to work when connected to the same port, but now it is not visible, try connecting the disk with a different cable.
It sounds crazy, but we were faced with a situation where a disk with a proprietary Samsung cable suddenly ceased to be visible, but with a good (expensive) cable from a Chinese store, it normally appeared in the system.

well, if the disk itself works on other devices using 3.0, but it doesn’t work on the laptop and the working port is 3.0 on the laptop, then you probably need to install / reinstall / update the drivers on the usb 3.0 host controller
